The party's president, Wee Ka Siong, stated that MCA Youth, the youth wing of the party, has received complaints from a significant number of high-achieving students who were unexpectedly excluded from the matriculation program despite their stellar SPM results.

According to Wee Ka Siong, at least 11 students have lodged formal complaints with MCA Youth, expressing their disappointment and confusion over being denied a place in the matriculation program. These students, who presumably achieved excellent grades in their SPM exams, expected to be eligible for further studies through this pathway. The matriculation program typically serves as a bridge for students to enter public universities, and admission is often based on academic merit. The fact that these high scorers were left out suggests a potential flaw in the selection process or an insufficient number of available slots that did not accommodate all deserving candidates.
